Sightseeing in Beijing

There are innumerable scenic spots in Beijing. Some of them are walkable while some are far away from the city center. Sightseeing in Beijing is a great experience. There are five major must-see spots in Beijing namely the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, Ming Tomb and Great Wall. Make sure that you visit all of these sites when you are in the country. While you are out for Sightseeing in Beijing, do not miss all of these spots.

Forbidden City and Temple of Heaven are very close if you are in the downtown area. The Summer Palace on the other hand is located on the north-east edge of the city. The Badaling Great Wall and Ming Tomb are on the north suburb of Beijing. It takes only two days to complete the itinerary. You can either take a bus or reach these places by hiring a taxi. Take an English speaking travel agent with you if you are not proficient with the local language.

The Forbidden City is officially known as the Imperial Palace Museum. It was built by the third Emperor of the Ming Dynasty, Emperor Yong Le. The Forbidden City was the seat of Imperial power for 500 years. It is a major tourist draw of the country. The total area of Forbidden City is 183 acres. There are 9,999 1/2 rooms in this museum. All of them cannot be visited by tourists.

Temple of Heaven Park was built between 1409 and 1420. The Temple of Heaven is very arresting in terms of architecture, color and significance. It was actually used by the emperor to communicate directly with Heaven, at least for the common men. The emperor used to come here to pray for good harvests. The construction of the temple is based around the number nine, the largest of the single digits, which is divine in Chinese numerology. The Temple consists of four basic parts: the Round Altar, the Echo Wall, the Imperial Vault of Heaven and the Hall of prayer.
