Culture of China


The Culture of China is very rich. Culture of China dates back to its history of more than 5000 years. With large geographical area, China has wide range of traditions in towns, cites and provinces. Their culture also stretches to other foreign lands, where Chinese-speaking people are found.

The regional identity in the Chinese culture has some distinctions based on the Yellow River basin areas and Yangtze River areas. There have been many emperors in China. The education, marriage custom and Taoist sexual practices are still found in the Chinese society. Social and moral values in Chinese society are affected by Taoism, Confucianism, Neo-Confucianism, Conservatism and Buddhism.

There were numerous Chinese dialects influencing spoken Chinese. The vernacular Chinese started only after the May 4th Movement. Chinese people are great believers and practitioners of spirituality. Budai, Guan Yin and Jade Emperor are some of the most recognized holy figures in the country. You will also find fortunetelling in China as one of the ancient Chinese practices.

Chinese people are health conscious and they devised many new methods to improve health. There are qigong, meditation, acupuncture and use of Chinese herbs to prevent from and cure various ailments. Chinese Cuisine is special for its variety of dishes and fantastic taste. The Oriole Pavilion and Fangshan restaurant in Beihai Park Beijing are some of the famous restaurants in China offering grand recipes.

Zhou Dynasty had played a great role in Chinese cultural development. Education in China involves astronomy, astrology, calendar and poetry. Chinese literature is very rich. Hu Shih and Lu Xun took a leading role in modern literature. Music of China is also very old. It dates back to the era Confucius. China has a full-grown musical culture. Chinese painting is also world renowned. Chinese opera has also received great appreciation from the art lovers all over the world. Magnificent examples of Chinese architecture have been found from more the 2000 years back.

Eastern Martial Arts has its origin in China. This most populated country houses Wudang Mountains and Shaolin monastery.

Culture of China is certainly diverse and illustrious.
