The Lu Xun Memorial, Shanghai is situated in the Hongkou
Park. In 1928, it was opened to the Chinese people.
This park was named after Lu Xun, one of the most popular
Chinese writers of the twentieth century. This house
is built in a typical Japanese style. This house is
different from those of Sun Yatsen and Zhou Enlai. It
is a 3-storied villa made of red bricks and red tiles.
You will observe various rooms containing different
settings of the daily-used items of the writer. Lu
Xun Memorial, Shanghai is one of the major places
of attractions of the city.
Located in the Lu Xun Park, this memorial is in the
vicinity of the tomb of the Chinese literary master,
Lu Xun. Lu Xun took birth in a small city south of Shanghai,
which was called Shaoxing in 1881. The poet was known
as one of the best Chinese writers during the twentieth
century. Lu Xun's works mainly focus on the patterns
of living of the downtrodden and poor people in Chinese
society. He was considered as the conscience of modern
China.
The entire Lu Xun Memorial, Shanghai operates in the
fashion of a modern museum. It has a floor area of 4683
square meters. There is a basement and two floors in
the building. You will find cultural souvenirs at the
basement of the memorial houses. There are guest halls
and Zhaohua library in the first floor. It is used for
academic lectures, theme exhibitions and many more.
The life of Mr. Lu Xun is exhibited in the second floor.
In the second floor of the memorial, you will find numerous
old photographs and books of the prolific writer. Apart
from that, the floor also contains articles used by
Lu Xun. You will also get to see his death mask, goatskin
gown and hat in this place.
Lu Xun Memorial, Shanghai reminds you of a famous poet
who was a critic of Confucian values and society. You
will get to know the story behind the excellent literary
piece 'The True Story of Ah Q' and 'The Diary of a Madman'
brilliantly written by Lu Xun. The memorial is open
to the public.
